The account lock: which accounts your robot runs on

Every robot you get is built for the MetaTrader 5 account numbers you name. It runs on those accounts and nowhere else, except in the Strategy Tester. This page explains what that means day to day.

There is no licence server and no online check. The robot never contacts our website.

How the lock works

When you buy a robot, you enter the account numbers it may run on. Our build computer puts them into the robot file in a scrambled form, together with the last four digits of each, and builds the file for you.

When the robot starts, it reads the account MetaTrader 5 is logged in to and compares it with its list. On one of your accounts it writes one line in the Experts tab naming them, and runs. On any other account it does nothing: no trades, no chart buttons, no messages. It shows a message on the chart, writes it once in the Experts tab and shows one alert, so a refused robot never looks like a running one.

If MetaTrader is not connected yet, the robot waits and looks again every few seconds. It checks again at every tick, so logging in to another account stops it at once.

Example

Your robot is locked to

  • Your demo account: allowed
  • Your live account: allowed
  • The Strategy Tester: always allowed
  • Any other account: not allowed, and it says so on the chart

Where to find your account number

Your account number is the login your broker gave you for MetaTrader 5. MetaTrader calls it the login. It is a number, and it is not your password: we never ask for a password, and the robot never needs one.

You can name up to 2 accounts for one robot, in any mix of demo, live and prop firm accounts. A demo account and a live account is the usual pair.

Logins are unique at each broker, not across all brokers. The robot checks the number only, so the same number at another broker would pass. That is rare, and the robot writes the broker's name in its start line so we can help if it ever matters.

In MetaTrader 5

Three places it is shown

  • The Navigator, under Accounts: the number before your broker's server name
  • The title bar of the MetaTrader window, next to your broker's name
  • File then Login to Trade Account: the Login box

The email your broker sent when you opened the account has it too, with the server name.

Changing accounts

If you move to a new account, for example the next phase of a prop firm challenge, ask for an account change on your account page. We build the same robot again for the new account number and email you when it is ready to download. Each robot allows 3 changes.

The new file has a new name, so it never overwrites the copy you already have. The copy you already downloaded keeps working on the old account. Delete it from the Experts folder if you no longer want it there.

If you type a number wrongly, tell us before the first download and we will correct it.

What happens

An account change

  • You ask for the change and enter the new account number

  • Our build computer builds the same robot for the new number

  • We email you, and you download the new file

The old file keeps working on its old accounts. Nothing is switched off from outside.

Why an old copy keeps working

The accounts are inside the file. The robot never asks our website whether it may run, so nothing outside the file can switch it off. That is why it keeps working if our website is down, and why a copy built for an account keeps working there after you change accounts.

It also means we cannot stop a robot on your account for you. If you want a robot to stop, press its Stop robot button, switch Algo Trading off, or remove it from the chart. Stopping a robot.

Demo and live

Treated alike

The lock looks at the account number only. Demo, live and prop firm accounts count the same, because prop firm challenge accounts often show as demo accounts. Name whichever accounts you want to run the robot on.

What the lock does, and does not stop

The lock is a technical protection measure. Here is what it does, and what it cannot do.

What it does

  • Your robot runs only on the account numbers you named.
  • The Strategy Tester always runs it, on any account.
  • On any other account it does nothing: no trades, no chart buttons, no messages to your phone. It shows a message on the chart, writes it in the Experts tab and shows one alert.
  • It stops casual sharing, and running a robot on the wrong account by mistake.
  • The robot never contacts our website, so it keeps working if our website is down.

What it does not do

  • It does not stop a determined person from breaking the lock, or a trade copier from copying its trades to other accounts.
  • On an account it refuses, it no longer manages trades it opened there before. Those trades keep the stop loss and take profit already set at the broker.
  • It treats demo and live accounts alike, because prop firm challenge accounts often show as demo.
  • It checks the account number only, not the broker. The same number at another broker would pass, which is rare.

Each robot file is made for one purchase and names its build when it starts. Our terms do not allow sharing the file or copying its trades to other accounts.
